Do You Mean It?

"And we must admit our questions of others rarely invite a complete and honest sharing from their hearts. We all have a tendancy to keep safely distant from each other's feelings. To deal with what's really going on inside is disturbing, too uncomfortable; so we hide the inside truth from others - and from ourselves. Life works better that way. That's the clear message we've learned from many of our teachers and the one we communicate to others by our non-involvement."

- pg. 98 of 'Inside Out' by Dr. Larry Crabb

I don't know about pugnification, but whenever I do reveal 'too much' or anything about what I really (e.g. telling people that I think their hair looks like dried crap, telling people that they're illogical fools) people get offended. Rarely can people handle the truth.

Can you handle the truth? That's one of those rare questions that you can't answer 'no' to.

"...our questions of others rarely invite a complete and honest sharing from their hearts."

If I was completely honest, and people hate honesty for some reason, I really don't care that much about 'how someone's day was' unless something significant. If they have something they need to tell, they should just say it. I'll only ask questions that interest me -

Selfish, you say? What other questions would I ask that weren't hipocritical and insincere?

    Today I met a man
    But not really.
    Rather, our paths crossed.
The private paths of our own
    separate worlds made a juncture
    and we were there.

    We told our impersonal names
    and shook each other's hand
warmly and firmly - to convey
    our interest
    which wasn't there.

    We shared ourviews
    on the weather, politics,
    the latest news
    and other foreign things
    which were not there.
    And when the conversation lagged,
    we said:
"Well, glad to have met you"
    "Same here"
We lied, smiled, extended our hands
    again, and parted -
glad to be on our separate ways
    from our little meeting.

    Today I met a man
    But not really.

So much poetry. I find that people are only ever really honest when they are useing a faulse name.

    A cocktail party:

    FRED
    Hey! George, how's it going?

    GEORGE
Oh, well, well. Can't complain... and you?

    FRED
    Fine, just fine.

    GEORGE
Good. Well, nice to catch up, now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and have that exact same conversation to five other people.

Luke's next op is on Tuesday.

Interesting thoughts king kohl, not sure I agree entirely, but you have a point.

Great poem revhead. I've read that one before, I love it. Very reflective of western society.

Jill, is that why you use the name Jill?

I can't both have a point, and you disagree with me. If you disagree, then you don't think I have a point, you just don't want to say I don't have a point in case it'll offend me. You assume I can't handle the truth, which is exactly what I'm talking about.

Maybe you're not sure if it's true or not, that would explain it

That's not the case at all. I agree with parts of what you said, I just think there's more to it. SO I was telling the truth! :P
