Voted Yet?

Have we all been voting for Andy? Hamish bet all his savings that Andy would win. If he wins, they get $1240 and they're going to buy a greyhound to race, and call it Fred Bassett! Haha! They have this segment where Hamish read out the Fred Bassett comic from the paper. It's an awful comic and never funny. Hamish makes out that it's the most clever, funny thing ever, and Andy spends the whole time saying how crap it is. It's hilarious!

On Friday night I went and saw Dusted Orange at the St Andrews Hotel. Those guys are amazing! They sound like 'The Butterfly Effect' if that helps. Their gig was amazing and I finally bought their cd. Go to their MySpace to hear some of their music. I recommend getting along to see them if you're in Melbourne. I'm going to see them again on Wed night I think. They're playing @ The Spot on Sydney Rd in Brunswick. I wish they'd pay me for this endorsement. Or at least give me free tickets to their gigs. :)

Vote 4 Andy!

Everyone vote for Andy Lee to win the Cleo bachelor of the year award this year. He is hilarious and it's a great radio gimmick. He is one half of Hamish & Andy the best show on radio. It'd be fantastic if he won, more for novelty than anything else. And he's probably more down to earth than most of the other guys.
Vote here!

If you love 24, you'll love this! I love it!

- When a convicted terrorist was sentenced to face Jack Bauer, he appealed to have the sentence reduced to death.

More of Nimbin

Thought I'd get back to posting photos of my trip with Sabine up north, because I haven't done that much of that. This is a photo of Dot (one of the people I stayed with) & myself having lunch just before we went to the tea farm.

This is a pic of the tea farm. It was really interesting seeing how they made the tea and finding out the real facts about tea, rather than believing a lot of the myths out there. I really enjoyed it, and of course I bought tea!!! In case you're not aware, I'm a HUGE tea fan! I have about 20 different teas at home! :)

Me & a hippy van!

This is a photo of the beach at Coolangatta on the Gold Coast. Isn't it stunning?

Sabine & I at an Irish put at Surfer's Paradise having drinks.

Now this was such an exciting place! This is the restaurant at the end of the universe! Yes, taken straight from hitchhikers! It was the coolest place ever!! I'm sure I talked all about it a post while I was away. This is the cocktail I had there. How fun is that?!! It had a flashing glass, a glowing neon cube and dry ice coming out of it. Soooo much fun!!!

This is Sabine at the restaurant at the end of the universe. This is just a glass of water. How cool!

This is us at the Byron Bay lighthouse. I'm sure you've noticed that all the photos of the two of us are close ups, because we had to take them all ourselves! So it's always me holding the camera out trying to get a good photo of us!

A not so great photo of Penny. A great friend of mine who lives on the Gold Coast who I lived in Tassie with. I hadn't seen her in about 18 months, so it was awesome to catch up with her again! We were making burritos for dinner!

Rob & Rikki at the Coolangatta airport as I was dropping them off to go back to Melbourne for a holiday. These are the guys I knew before I went up to Nimbin, they live there now, but used to go to my church here in Melbourne. They are the ones who told me about the radio gig in the first place.

Me & a scarecrow at the Sphynx Rock Cafe where I went a number of times. I loved it there. And look Victorians! Cheap bananas!!!

And finally, this is us on the beach at Byron Bay, looking all squinty. It was such a lovely day for the beach that day, we loved it!

And thus concludes another post of a thousand photos!

Mmmm... Lunch...

It was so good to eat today! :) I had a Thai Green Curry at the Revvy household for lunch which was amazing! We (my family & I) spent a wonderful afternoon at the Boutros' place, full of great conversation and company! Then it was off to church for the youth program. Gotta love those guys! Got to read some of my new book, 'Mansfield Park' by Jane Austin. Just finished 'Digital Fortress' by Dan Brown. Such an amazing book!

Went out on Friday night (after helping Alex move house) for Josh's birthday to a karaoke bar in the city. It was soooooooo much fun!!! I love karaoke (DCMM, it IS awesome!)!!! Sang a couple of times, and got to bed @ 3:30am, so it was definitely a good night!

Thought I'd thrown in a photo from my trip. This is me at the Byron Bay lighthouse.

Feeling kinda hungry seeing as I haven't eaten in a little over 27 hours. I plan to sleep in tomorrow and get up in time to eat lunch at midday with the wonderful Revvy, KK and family.

Watched so many movies today... saw Bio-Dome (caught the tail end of it anyway), Stick Men, Ever After, & some of Cast Away. Love it. Hung out at Anna & Rob's on the couch wrapped in a blanket. What a great way to spend a Saturday evening. Am I a Grandma? Me thinks so...

I'm really into Lano & Woodley at the moment! They are so clever, funny and just plain talented! I was watching some of their show today, it's hilarious! I'd forgotten how much I love it! I went out and bought their 'Lano & Woodley Sing Songs' cd too. Listening to it now. Gotta love it! I have another celebrity crush, well moreso a crush I have redeveloped. Yes, I have a crush on Frank Woodley. :)

Feeling Ineffective

Well I haven't really raised much money, I've only raised $50 so far. That's not going to help the east timorese very much. Help me guys! Someone asked me what the 40 hour famine is! Basically I (or anyone doing the famine) go without food for 40 hours, and people sponsor me to do it. The funds from the 40 Hour Famine will help feed and care for hungry kids in East Timor. They’ll also assist World Vision’s work in southern Africa and with families in emergencies around the world.

SPONSOR ME!
My number is: 670903111

I realise I've posted hardly any Nimbin photos, more coming soon!

Just saw 'the lakehouse' with Mum. I really enjoyed it! Great chick flick! Lots of holes in the physics of the idea and in the practical outworkings of it, but if you don't think too hard, it's great! I recommend it to anyone who likes chick flicks.

40 Hours Of Hunger

"The family’s crops had died because there wasn’t enough rain in their area. So they were surviving on food made from ground up tree bark. It’s called akar. It doesn’t taste very nice and it’s not very nourishing. It’s just something to fill an empty stomach. In fact, you use up more energy making akar than you get from eating it. Making akar is one of the many chores Jilvertino does every day. It’s hard work on an empty stomach."

I've decided to do the 40 hour famine this year, for the first time in almost 10 years. I'd love for everyone to sponsor me. We can make a difference to the people of East Timor. It starts this weekend, so there is not much time left. I have to be quick in raising money. Check out the website. If you want to sponsor me online you can here:

Or see me in person if you'd rather do it that way. Please support this wonderful cause! These people need our help!

This is me looking totally hot as I went to bed last night wearing a nasal strip. I have a cold at the moment and I haven't been able to sleep the last 4 nights coz my nose is so blocked up and I can't breathe, so this helped open up my nasal passages. It's a good look huh?

Action?

I was sad that no-one commented on the post about action for the people of Darfur. There was plenty of debate (heated debate at that!) and discussion about the 'idea' of it, but as soon as I talked about DOING something, everyone disappeared! That made me sad. Yay for Soldier who got his letter published in the Herald Sun newspaper today. I've put up a picture of it. They attatched a photo and made it the feature letter. It seems that we are starting to have a voice. I wrote to the Herald Sun & The Age newspapers today. Come on guys! Writer letters, tell people what's going on. If you knew someone over there would you be doing more?

Sunday, August 13, 2006

Congrats!

I should have posted this sooner as I've known for a few days now. CONGRATULATIONS! Soldier (aka Aaron) is engaged to the wonderful Jen. Congrats guys! I'm sure you'll be very happy together, I wish you God's blessing in your life together and his wisdom in your relationship.

And here is the ring. I'm surprised. Aaron has good taste in jewelry!

Look at Matt & Alex? Aren't they hot? Oh yeah. I think Carmel's hats are very becoming on them...

Let's Act!

I've been doing some surfing and I have some more info. I'll add some helpful websites at the bottom of this post, and I'll also include an email I sent around. I sent this to all the news programs I could find. I'll attatch their email addresses or web forms so you can submit something to ask them to cover this story! It'd be so good if everyone submitted something to these guys to show them that we care! To show them that we want to know what's going on in our world. Send this on to as many people as you can and if we all start telling the news that we want to hear about it, maybe the story of the people from the Darfur region will be told!

The email I sent:

To whom it may concern,

Right now a campaign of rape, slaughter and displacement is currently being carried out in the western region of Sudan, the largest country in Africa. Government-supported troops have displaced 2.5 million people in the past two years, hundreds of thousands have died due to attacks, disease and starvation, and it is estimated that 500 men, women and children continue to die every day.

We must put pressure on our national leaders to take immediate action. President Bush and the United States Congress have recognized the situation in Darfur as "genocide," but it will take much more than words to end the violence and suffering in Darfur. In fact this recognition imposes a legal obligation, let alone the inherent moral obligation, upon governments to take action to stop the genocide. If our leaders made Darfur a priority, hundreds of thousands of lives could be saved.

We don't do anything because we don't know anything. I am writing to you to beg you to look into this situation. We need media coverage to educate our citizens about this situation. We need to care and get our goverment to see that we care so that action can be taken to help these people escape their situation.

This is what Wikipedia has to say about the Darfur conflict:
The Darfur conflict is an ongoing conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan, mainly between the Janjaweed, a militia group recruited from local Baggara tribes, and the non-Baggara peoples (mostly tribes of small farmers) of the region. The Sudanese government, while publicly denying that it supported the Janjaweed, provided arms and assistance and has participated in joint attacks with the group. The conflict began in February 2003. Estimates of deaths in the conflict have ranged from 50,000 (World Health Organization, September 2004) to 450,000 (Dr. Eric Reeves, 28 April 2006). Most NGOs use 400,000, a figure from the Coalition for International Justice. The conflict has been described by mass media as "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide"; the Bush Administration of the United States and the U.S. Congress have declared it to be genocide, though the United Nations has declined to do so.

President Bush once wrote in the margins of a report on the Rwandan genocide, "Not on my watch.", yet it is happening again! Last time we just sat back and watched, let's not to it again! Please help me in calling for immediate attention to Darfur and more robust action on behalf of governments to support security efforts in the region. Please help get this message out!

Save Darfur!

Hey guys. KK sent me to a great website where you can lobby the American government to stop the geoncide in Chad. I've sent off an email, it'd be great if everyone coudl do the same and pass it on to everyone you know. The more peopel write in the more affect it will have!

Save Darfur!

Keep up the great discussion!

I just sent this to everyone I know. Feel free to do the same. Let's raise awareness so we can do something about it!

We don't hear anything about the genocide going on in Chad at the moment, the media don't cover it and the world is not stepping in to help. President Bush once wrote in the margins of a report on the Rwandan genocide, "Not on my watch.", yet it is happening again. We need to do something about this! We can write it to the American goverment with a plea to help these people escape their situation. Go here:

http://www.savedarfur.org/

Tell everyone you know. The more people write in, the more of a difference we will make! Let's care for our fellow man, I don't want to be numb to this kind of stuff, and I hope you don't either. Love,

Meags

Keep It Going!

I'd love to continue the conversation we were having in the previous thread! It's great! Keep thinking guys. I need to keep beign challenged.

Hurt my back this morning. I'm quite sore. Twinged a nerve in my back while I was washing my hair. Doh! Hopefully I'll be ok by tomorrow.

I've been trying to find out news on the situation in Chad and it's not that easy to get up to date information. Anyone found any good sites?

Getting Active

I watched 'Hotel Rwanda' last night with a few guys from church. What a powerful movie! And to think that it's all true is too terrible for words. It raises an interesting point about intervention. There is a quote on the back of the DVD cover that says:

"All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."

It's so true. Why do we stand back and let so many attrocities happen? I find it really hard to get my head around the concept that we are all made in the image of God, and yet we are capable of such blind hatred. I just don't understand it.

I want to do more. I want to be more aware, and I want to help change to eventuate. KK was telling us last night about how his aunt and uncle are trapped in Chad at the moment, hiding out in an orphanage. Isn't that awful? I didn't even know there was something going on in Chad! So I'm looking into it at the moment and I want to write letters to the news programs and try to encourage them to look into this. That seems to me to be the first step to getting someone to intervene and help these people. We need to be aware of this stuff! I'm wanting to send out emails to make people aware of this situation, and get others to email news programs to get them to cover it. If enough of us write, then maybe something can happen! So after I do some more research I want to see if there is something I can do to help instead of sitting back and thinking how hopeless it all is. I hope you'll join me. Don't you think this is important?

Antiskeptic

Last night a group of 10 of us headed out to see the amazing Antiskeptic. They are a fantastic punk band who I haven't seen live for about 4 years now! They took a couple of years off, but are back and still awesome! They haven't lost a thing. If you get the chance to get out and see them, I definitely recommend it! I bought their new EP that comes with a DVD too. Yay!

I'm heading off tonight to watch the movie "Hotel Rwanda" with a few people, then we're going to have a chat about it afterwards. From what I understand it's a pretty full on movie. Should be very interesting.

Tripod Made My Day!

Last night I headed off to see Melbourne comedy band Tripod. The members being Scod, Gatesy & Yon. They are just so fantastic! I went with Alison, Jenny, Emily & Rob. Brave man Rob with so many girls! We all loved it and left with sore cheeks and stomachs! Unfortunately they didn't play my favourite song, but I loved the show! They've started doing something new since they tried it and loved it last year. At the end of each show they play covers of songs they love. They do the best cover of 'Paranoid Android' by Radiohead I've ever heard, but last night they played 3 Queen songs as an encore, and Yon dressed up in the gear and everything! It was awesome! If you get a chance, they are playing at the Spanish Club in Fitzroy every Thursday in August in their show "Pod August Night'. I highly recommend them! Not only are they unbelievably funny, but they are such talented musicians! They sing in perfect 3 part harmony and I just adore listening to them! It's like they sing incredible music with ridiculous lyrics. Can you tell I love them? Oh yeah! I can't recommend them highly enough!

Here are the photos as promised! This one is Gatesy & I. One of my many celebrity crushes! I was so excited!

This is Scod & I. He was soooo nice!

And who could forget Yon? He was so lovely as well

This is the boys during their encore, so Yon is dressed in leather... I was so impressed with how nice all the boys were. I hope I can get to another one of their shows before the season is up.

I've been having a bit of fun trying to manipulate photos in photoshop. I know they're a bit dodgy, I've never done anything like this before.

I kind of like this one, it's Sabine from the Nimbin pub all done up like a fairy.

Glenn from the wedding done up in red.

Stupid Sticky Things

EDIT: I submitted a new deviantArt thing today.

I got my heart monitor off this morning. Yay! It was not fun to sleep with... I had to wear a heart monitor for 24 hours from yesterday @ 9am. Just to make sure there's nothing wrong with my heart. There probably isn't, but the doc wanted to rule it out. I get these annoying dizzy spells, so they're testing to see if my heart could be causing it. I had a really bad attack last Tuesday and it was really scary, so they wanted to check me out. I get the results in a few days. I had 5 sticky electrodes stuck to me. It was kinda weird. A good look for anyone. I think I could have started a trend! In fact, I'm sure I did!
