Make Poverty History

I really support this campaign. One of the best causes around! Hence the new ribbon on the top right hand corner of this page.

hehe, yeah, i was wondering if that was from you or the blog host.

what did people think of the Live8 stuff? while i obviously support the cause, i reckon it's kinda weird having all these rich rock stars trying to make a statement about poverty, and then going home to their mansions at night.

hopefully it did raise awareness in their 'rich' circles, and in the gagillions of people who were at or saw on tv the concerts, and in the g8 leaders.

but your point is true. it's strange.

I think Live8 was fantastic. The super rich rock stars who dont' give a rats about poverty seemed to be missing from it though. I know it seems a bit hypocritical as they are all very well off, but most of those celebrities are invovled in charities one way or another. I think it was so good for raising awareness and getting the ball rolling for the make poverty history campaign. People need to get invovled at all levels otherwise governments will continue to do nothing.

If all the clebrities in the world donated just 1% of their income each year poverty probably would be history :)

One of the biggest problem is distributing. The Live8 campaigns and stuff are about bipassing governments and getting the stuff strait to the people

I went to get a band but then I found out it cost money...I don't know how to pay over the internet, plus I owe my parents about $500...

I think the bands only cost likt $2, but if everyone buys one it makes a difference. You can get them from heaps of different places. If anyone wants the ribbon thing on their website, there is some html code to paste into your template on the website. Just click on my ribbon to find it.

Celebrities are actually not that rich compared to the people that really ARE rich - they're all the big business people like oil tycoons, company owners, etc. What's the stat again? It's something like 1% of the world's population hold %85 of the world's finances. Crazy. If those 1% gave 1% of THEIR income, imagine what an impact that could have.

The real b*****ds are the international money-lenders though. They're the guys who are lending money to third world countries and charging them so much interest that they can't pay anything off the capital. Talk about evil. I mean really, that is absolutely evil.
