Wikipedia

Now I think Wikipedia is great, but lately it's become a point of amusement! One of my favourite radio shows 'Get This' has been encouraging people to 'vandalise' particular Wikipedia pages. It's hilarious! Check out the pages of the hosts of the show, Tony Martin & Ed Kavalee, & panelist Richard Marsland. You can't edit them anymore because of 'vandalism'! Haha! 'Get This' is one of the best radio shows around, although I found that it took a while to adjust to it. It's an aquired taste simply because of it's strange format. It doesn't sound like most radio shows, it has a distinct flavour. I love it now. They are self confessed geeks who are very, very funny! I'd love to hang out with them, I think they'd make me giggle like a school girl! The show is on Triple M from 9 - 10am weekdays. You can podcast it if you like. Well worth it!

They don't encourage blatent valdelism, but rather putting in obscure facts and random things on fact pages about people. Specifically about the guys who host the show and obscure movies. It's hilarious!

...while potentially am amusing concept, wikipedia doesn't need that. I agree with joshy, I hate it when people mess with open source.

I personally don't see the problem if they're not putting anything false in there. I find it kinda hilarious that some obscure Steven Segal movie suddenly had a full blown wikipedia page with information on the most insignificant aspect of production.

I'm gonna stick with Hamish and Andy though. I don't have time to sit around listening to hundreds of podcasts...

I'll stick with triple m. i'm afraid i just can't take the crap music that fox play.

i love Get This, but i hardly get to hear it because of the time it's on. :-(

    Podcast it like I do!

I love Hamish & Andy! I'm torn between them and the shebang. They're both such great shows. Marty Sheargold is a radio genius!

Get This aren't the first to do that sort of stuff - twice now Ryan North (dino comics) has encouraged wiki-pranks, the second time he even wrote a manifesto about how it would be the improved future of wiki and would end all vandalism at the expense of the page on chickens. I can't seem to find the link for the manifesto though.

Triple J's morning show J and the Doctor also did this sort of thing except rather than ruin other pages they created a new page about the fictional "Mini Mammoth" the pet craze sweeping the world. They had photoshoped images, fake newspaper articles, everything - very hilarious. Shame it got deleted (contrary to stated wiki policy)

Charles Firth (from chaser's war on everything) has so many fake wikipedia pages! The best thing about it is that he didn't create any of them!!!

I don't get to hear Get This or Tough Love very often, but was an avid listener of Tony and Mick's Martin/Molloy program from 1995 to 1998.

Me too. That was one of the best radio show ever! However, 'tough love' is a shocking show! Mick Malloy is just plain wrong and boardering on creepy at times. he's find when he's with the right people, but on his own, I generally hate him.

Hate is such a strong word. Shouldn't gods people love all people regardless of their talent on radio or personality.

I didn't mean I hate him as a person, I hate listening to him. The content of his shows are awful.

Yeah, see I don't really see the humour in vandalising Wikipedia.

"Yeah! Stick it to 'the man' and be rebellious by writing misleading comments in Wikipedia even though it's only for our benifit and lots of other people try and use it"

And yeah I know this conversation is long dead.
