Non Violence Activism

I went to a public lecture this evening in the city on non-violence activism. It was really interesting. It was run by an organisation called Pace Bene. Very thought provoking stuff. The speakers were John Dear & Tim Costello. I'll talk more about it later. I'm tired now.

I know it isn't fair, but I cringe whenever I hear that word... 'activism'. It reeks of 1st-Year-uni student-bent-on-whinging-about-
everything. Everything. I knew so many of them.

I know, it comes with a lot of baggage these days. This was about working for peace as a result of following the life of Jesus. He was never violent, he was the ultimate non-violent activist. It really was an interesting lecture. Inspiring stuff.

    i love activism: )

i have just finished reading a book called "activists wisdom" it is a study of all the major activist leaders in australia of the past 50 years and how they did what they did.

i think that it would be great to be a full time activist.

danny i feel the pain with you. where did they get there info from. my personal fave was a rally about VSU that incorporated homosexuality, cuba, aboriginal rights and IR reform . i didn't hear anything about VSU that day?

I think it's sad when terms that are supposed to mean one thing take on an entirely different connotation by the way they are misused. I think that 'activism' might be one... it's kind of like the Christian bashers in the US. If you say you're a Christian, you're lumped with the extreme-o's who are overly self-righteous and use the Bible to justify their hatred of everyone unlike themselves.

It's all too bad when a term can evoke such intense feelings... especially when it really shouldn't.

Sorry... just rambling now. Looking forward to your recap!
